The canvas of downtown Aurora is expanding—into the digital realm! We’re inviting artists, technologists, and community members to propose the next major AR public art installation for our city.

The Challenge: Create an augmented reality artwork that:

  • Engages with Aurora’s physical spaces in meaningful ways

  • Tells a story about our community’s past, present, or future

  • Is accessible to people of all ages and abilities

  • Can evolve or respond to viewer interaction

Submission Categories:

  1. Historical Reimagining: AR that reveals hidden histories

  2. Community Portrait: Digital art built from community contributions

  3. Interactive Environment: Spaces that respond to movement or weather

  4. Future Vision: Speculative art imagining Aurora’s next century

What Winners Receive:

  • $15,000 production grant

  • Technical support from Aurora’s Digital Arts Lab

  • 6-month installation in high-traffic downtown location

  • Featured promotion across city platforms

  • Community workshop to co-create with residents

Submission Requirements:

  • Concept description (500 words max)

  • Visual mockups or sketches

  • Technical feasibility outline

  • Community engagement plan

  • Accessibility considerations

Timeline:

  • Submissions Open: January 1 – February 28, 2026

  • Community Voting: March 15-31, 2026

  • Winner Announced: April 15, 2026

  • Installation: Summer 2026
